Our wines

Whites

2008 Silly Point Riesling

They well may play cricket in heaven but they drink riesling.  It has the usual pale, slightly green appearance of a good cool climate riesling with floral, lime and citrus aromas.  Starting to develop complexity in bottle.  Acidity is firm.

2010 Old Wynyard Sauvignon Blanc

Taken to full ferment dryness, this wine relies for any sweetness on natural fruit salad tastes. It has herbaceous aromas but these are not at all overdone. The flavours are kept sharp and crisp by tangy acidity. Very popular (and very different) from the Chardonnay flood.

2008 Mardi Gras Gewürztraminer

A grape variety thought to have originated near Tramin in northern Italy and Gewurz being ‘spicy’ in German.  This very rare cool climate wine is perfumed, spicy, floral and fruity.  Enough detail – it is a sweeter, aromatic style wine made to drink outside on a warmer day with a cheese platter or lovely dessert.  It’s also particularly good with Asian food.  It is lots of fun, hence ‘Mardi Gras’.

2006 Wamboin Ice Dessert Riesling

Made by freezing the natural water in the wine and then removing the ice, thus making the remaining wine sweeter and more concentrated in flavours.  Best served cold, this luscious nectar is made for deserts and/or cheese.  The perfect end to a perfect meal.

Reds

2009 Rosa d'amore Pinot Rosé

Bright crimson in colour & full of juicy ripe fruit with a strawberries and cream character.  Sweet on the nose, yet dry on the palate.  Cool climate acidity with a crisp, clean finish.  Goes beautifully with milk chocolate!  Very easy to like.

2011 Black Duck Pinot Noir

Medium ruby in colour, young, intense black cherry aroma with medium-body; good balance; soft tannins with faint heat.  This wine will soften and mature further for the next few years.  Best served with lighter meats such as duck, and gamey meats such as rabbit.  It goes superbly with Italian dishes.

2006 The Girls Merlot

Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon, to which it is related, but rounder and softer at the same age.  This variety has flavours of plum, fruit cake and black current with cherry on the nose.  The alcohol is higher than normal owing to a hot dry vintage.  The tannins are also well developed this year.  Enjoy with steak, pasta and salads.

2005 Shepherds Run La Stupenda Sparkling Shiraz

A special occasion wine, named in honour of Dame Joan Sutherland or La Stupenda to her opera fans.  Sparkling shiraz is one of many great contributions Australia has made to the world of wine.  An indulgent sparkling wine, made in the traditional way and displaying characteristics of ripe shiraz, underlain with pepper and red berry fruit.  A drinking experience not to be missed. - more coming soon!
